Jorge Lorenzo caps perfect weekend
LOSAIL (DOHA): Jorge Lorenzo is free-spirited. On the track it is obvious from his trailblazing ways, but once off his bike, the Spanish former world champ is all fun and cheers, which was evident from the way the 25-year-old answered questions from curious scribes about a perfect weekend he had at the Grand Prix of Qatar -- the opening round of the 2012 MotoGP season.Lorenzo topped the time charts during Friday practice and then upstaged world champion Casey Stoner during qualifying on Saturday before putting the icing on the cake by taking his Yamaha home ahead of the Repsol Honda duo of Dani Pedrosa and Stoner, at the Losail International Circuit on Sunday. The three-way battle between Lorenzo, Pedrosa andStoner kept everyone at the edge of their seats and the Spaniard's victory meansthe world championship will be an exciting affair this season even thoughValentino Rossi, who finished 10th on Sunday, might not have a say in the titlerace unless his Ducati starts giving him the muscle to catch up with thefront-row boys.Way before the first race of the year, duringpre-season trials, the Yamaha of Lorenzo was showing signs of having the gruntto push the Spaniard into title reckoning in the MotoGP segment where the bikeswere upgraded from 800cc to 1000cc this season. "The team has done a great joband the bike is running really well," said Lorenzo after the race.
